		<description>Greetings, I looked at the URL (http://www.cambridgema.gov/theworks/ourservices/recyclingandtrash/schedulesandroutes.aspx) as well, and it&#039;s not the best table to display the information, but the last row says the Holiday is Monday, but it also says trash pickup is Monday. If you look at the holidays above, the weeks where it is delayed says One day later in the pickup column.

The link we provided above in the original post is from the News page of the Public Works and was posted on the 13th. They also posted on their facebook page:
&lt;blockquote&gt;Please note that trash and recycling collection is on schedule during the week of 12/26. In observance of the Near Year&#039;s Day holiday, there will be no collection on Monday, 1/2, and the remainder of the week will be one day behind schedule. Street cleaning also ends for the season on Wednesday, 12/28. Happy holidays to all and see you in 2012!&lt;/blockquote&gt;

		<description>Response from highlands resident sent in via email:

Blair Pond Project- a response to the article by Minka vanBeuzekom

As neighbors who have lived on Blair Pond for many years, we are thrilled that the DCR (Division of Conservation Resources) is going to restore and regenerate the dying pond behind our homes. Minka’s recent article aptly pointed out the years of neglect and degredation of this potential gem. The pond is overtaken with invasives plant species, filled with silt to the point it does not retain storm water, and plagued with dead wetlands.

The DCR plan to dredge and restore the pond is both thoughtful and comprehensive. The forebay to collect silt, the restoration of wetlands, the removal of invasive plants is exactly what is needed.

Where we disagree with Minka is in her perplexing question - “which Blair Pond project do you want?” The project underway does not call for a “manicured park” and will in fact provide greater sanctuary for flora and fauna. Vibrant and alive wetlands with native plantings will provide wildlife with the cover and habitat they need. Additionally, most of the wooded areas will be completely undisturbed. Garbage strewed about will be removed. The temporary construction pathway will be narrowed into a trail that will connect citizens to a currently impenetrable area. Trails are used by wildlife and people and are a part of any resource area, be it local, state or federal. The idea of wildlife and humans coexisting is one that harks back to the original intent of the the National Park and Wilderness structure in this country. That is - take care of our natural resources, introduce them to those who will tread gently, appreciate them and become stewards of the land.

I have been consistently impressed with the DCR plan. Through various meetings, hearings with the Cambridge Conservation Commission and a site visit with the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Agency what is obvious is that this Blair Pond project protects, improves and restructures a dying resource into a vibrant and living one.
