TROMP Introduction!
Hello Cambridge Highlands,
My name is Matt Shuman and I’m an organizer with TROMP! (Travel Responsibility Outreach and Mentoring Project), a Cambridge non-profit that is collaborating with city departments and the private sector to improve the culture of travel in Cambridge.
Basically we are encouraging all traffic, be it bikes, cars, or pedestrians to be courteous and aware of the law in order to create a more pleasant and safer travel environment in Cambridge. Also, we hope that by making Cambridge a more accommodating place to ride your bike and walk we will see more people eschew driving and thus positively impact the environment.
We are going to be working with kids in the schools, putting on a show on CCTV, collaborating with the police to educate and reinforce good behavior (and discourage bad), working with the local press to have a weekly “TROMP Traveler of the Week” award and profile, ensuring that “Don’t Door Me!” stickers get to every driver in Cambridge, talking with people at community fairs, and a whole host of other ideas (we would love yours as well!).
Our beautiful website, which we are constantly working to improve, explains the details of our campaign in what we hope is a fun and engaging way. I encourage you to check it out at at www.trompcambridge.com.
We would love to hear from you all about your experiences with travel in Cambridge and your thoughts on improving it, as well as your ideas for making our campaign as effective as possible. For now we ask that you travel predictably and with courtesy and encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same!
Sincerely,
Matt Shuman
