Proposed zoning amendments on limitations on signs

The recently proposed Zoning amendments now under consideration by the Planning Board and the City Council would, if approved, remove limitations on sign size, height, number, location and/or lighting! If that happens, signs proposed in many areas of the City will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with minimal to non-existent fixed, predictable, sign-related standards to guide the City’s Planning Board during its approval/disapproval hearings. Moreover, the Board will only be required to notify close-by property owners of such hearings that could negatively affect everyone’s visual environment.

If this concerns you, too, please speak up and/or write in your concerns on or before this coming Tues., Sept. 7, when there will be two, back-to-back public meetings on these proposed amendments: City Council/Ordinance Committee at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall and Planning Board at 7 p.m. at City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway. Or, email the City Council Council at Council@CambridgeMA.GOV and the Planning Board c/o Stuart Dash and Les Barber at sdash@cambridgema.govlbarber@cambridgema.gov.
