Since the beginning of May, there have been three reports of larcenies from motor vehicles in the Highlands; two overnight on 5/10-5/11, and one on 5/24-5/25. All three took place overnight on Normandy Ave or Normandy Terrace. Due to the relatively low number of incidents over the course of a month in this neighborhood compared to other parts of Cambridge, we cannot determine whether a pattern is emerging at this time. This neighborhood typically averages about 1-2 car breaks a month. However, we will keep an eye on this area and let you know if anything comes up that warrants further action.
All this being said, we strongly encourage residents to lock their vehicle doors, even when parked in private driveways. None of the above-mentioned incidents in the Highlands involved forced entry, and at least two of the affected vehicles were said to have knowingly been left unlocked, which allowed for easy and quiet entry into the vehicles.
