The city will hold a household hazardous waste collection day Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Concord Avenue Armory.
Among the things to look for in the home:
- Discard old containers of paint or solvents.
- Remove needless combustibles from basements, especially around heating equipment.
- Have heating equipment serviced by a professional at least once a year.
- Limit the use of electrical extension cords.
- Make sure you change the batteries in your smoke detectors if the detectors are more than 10 years old.
- Consider replacing battery-powered smoke detectors with a hard-wired system.
- Be advised of the new regulations in place for smoke detectors in buildings with one to five residential units. The enforcement of these regulations applies when the building is being sold or transferred.
