Concord Avenue Construction Starts Thursday, April 15, 2010

The City has awarded an 18-month contract for the reconstruction of Concord Avenue (Fresh Pond Pkwy to Blanchard Rd) to C.J. Mabardy Inc. of Cambridge.  Construction is expected to begin on Thursday, April 15.

This project implements several goals of the Concord-Alewife Plan.  New trees and plantings will enhance the visual character of the street, and sidewalk and bicycle facility improvements will encourage walking and bicycling.  Pedestrian access to public transit will also be improved.

Project Overview

  • Upgraded utilities; including new water and gas mains, and new catch basins.
  • New, fully accessible concrete sidewalks and curb cuts.
  • Re-paving of the existing roadway (keeping existing vehicle lanes).
  • Raised asphalt-paved, bicycle lanes to level of the sidewalk.
  • Safer pedestrian crossings with improved markings at intersections.
  • New street trees and plantings.

Please visit the project webpage for additional information:

  • Traffic on Concord Ave will be impacted by construction; police details will be in place to assist neighbors.
  • Pedestrian and vehicle access into properties will be maintained at all times, but may be restricted in certain ways.
  • Emergency vehicles will have access at all times.
  • City services will continue uninterrupted.
