Dear Cambridge Neighborhood Groups:
As a follow up to some questions we’ve received, I am sending this reminder to all neighborhood organizations that posting of notices on public facilities- like street poles, trees, bus shelters, street lights, newboxes, mailboxes, utility boxes, street signs, etc.-is not permitted in Cambridge (per the attached ordinance). Notices may only be posted in designated public areas, or on private property with the owner’s permission.
Postings do require City staff to spend a great deal of time scraping and repainting public furnishings, and often results in damages that cannot be easily repaired. Please advise your membership, employees, or private contractors to avoid this practice, as it can result in citations and fines.
We truly appreciate your help in addressing this issue. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Compliance Officer Vincent Best at 617-349-4869/ vbest@cambridgema.gov.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Fuentes
