Dear Cambridge Residents,
I am pleased to announce that starting today, April 1, 2008, the Cambridge Police Department will be presenting Cambridge residents with the opportunity to register with the Alert Network. This is an innovative service being used across the country that has the capability of sending important messages to residents via electronic text messaging and e-mails. We will be utilizing this system to send out community alerts, information on community safety, Police Department sponsored meetings, and news updates relative to the Cambridge Police Department.
Effective May 1, 2008, community alerts will no longer be sent out via the previous distribution lists. Residents that are already receiving community alerts via email from myself or other Police Department personnel will need to register with the Alert Network to continue receiving these notices.
To register for the Alert Network, visit our website at http://www.cambridgepolice.org/ and click the link for the Alert Network Registration.
Under the “For Citizens” Column, select the “sign up for alerts” tab. You can then simply follow the quick and easy instructions to complete your registration. You will have a choice to receive notices relevant to just your specified neighborhood or all of Cambridge. You can even sign up for Boston alerts, which will come from their police department.
Please remember that if you opt to receive electronic text messages via your mobile phone, standard message rates of your service carrier will apply.
Please feel free to contact the Community Relations Unit at 617-349-3236, for questions about this new service, or assistance with your registration.
Take care,
