ATTENTION CAMBRIDGE TENANTS AND LANDLORDS: SPRING IS HERE!
YOU MAY QUALIFY FOR HOME IMPROVEMENT SERVICES THROUGH THE LEAD-SAFE CAMBRIDGE PROGRAM!
Cambridge landlords and their tenants may qualify for lead paint abatement services offered by the Lead-Safe Cambridge (LSC) program. In most cases this funding can be used to replace old windows and doors.
Like many cities and towns in New England, Cambridge has an old housing stock, with 70% of dwellings being built before 1978 when lead paint was banned. Thousands of Cambridge homes still contain toxic lead paint and thousands of Cambridge children under age six may be at risk of being lead poisoned as a result.
Lead-Safe Cambridge offers:
- Up to $10,000 per unit for deleading. Typically includes replacement windows and other property improvements.
- Up to $2,500 per unit for “safer soil” landscaping.
- Free lead inspection.
- Free temporary relocation during deleading.
- Free project management.
- Referral and medical follow up for blood lead testing for children under age six.
To qualify for LSC’s services, owners of rental units must agree to rent the units to low or very low-income families for a period of 5 years following deleading. Income eligibility follows Section 8 guidelines and is based on the past 12 months of tenant earnings.
