Neighborhood reminder of important dates.
Don’t forget to reduce, reuse and recycle!

Hello Recycling Neighbors!

Separate Yard Waste Collection Ends Dec 10-14
The last week for separate collection of leaves and yard waste by the City will be December 10 -14. Separate yard waste collection will resume the week of April 7-11, 2008. Remember, yard waste in plastic bags is NOT accepted during yard waste season April-December. Recycle leaves, grass and small twigs and branches (thinner than your thumb and shorter than your arm). Place in paper yard waste bags, not stapled or taped or barrels with red city “Yard Waste ONLY” stickers, facing the street. Bundle thick tree limbs 2ft x 2ft. Place yard waste bags and barrels at the curb by 7am on your collection day or after 6pm the night before.

Christmas Tree Collection Dec 26-Jan 18
Curbside collection of bare christmas trees will be Dec 26 through Jan 18. Decorations and stands must be removed and trees should not be in a plastic bag. Weather permitting, christmas trees collected during this time don’t end up in the landfill! Last year, City residents recycled nearly 3000 trees. Over 190 cubic yards of chipped trees was used as mulch in natural areas in Cambridge and Boston.

Recycling “Toters” Available to 7-12 unit Buildings
We now can provide 96-gallon toters on wheels for free to multi-family residential buildings with 7 units or more for recycling (for bottles/cans and papers/cardboard only). In the past, only 13+ unit buildings have been eligible for free recycling toters. 7-12 unit buildings need about 2-4 toters. To request toters for your building, click here for an online request form and please complete all fields. Please have on hand the name of your property management company and/or the appropriate person that is responsible for placing trash/recycling at the curb for your building and bringing empty containers back on the property after collection.

Recycle Computers, TVs & Electronics
If your computer or TV still works, donate it! Otherwise, the City will pick up 1 computer monitor or TV per household per week if it the diagonal screen length is 20 inches or less. For TVs and monitors larger that 20″, contact DPW at (617) 349-4800 or 147 Hampshire St. to purchase a sticker ($20, $15 for seniors) and schedule a pick up.

Also, when during open hours, the Recycling Drop-off Center at 147 Hampshire Street (Tues/Thurs 4-7:30pm and Sat 9-4pm) accepts broken household appliances. We accept anything with a chord or battery operated device that one person can lift, but NO computer monitors or TVs (see curbside recycling information above). We accept lamps, stereos, VCRs, hair dryers, answering machines, vacuums, etc. Information on CPUs that our vendor salvages for reuse are scrubbed clean. Otherwise, items are shredded, separated by material and recycled.
